Oakland/Reykjavík based composer, performer, and sound artist Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir recreates perceived metaphysical structures based in empirical observations on relationships and causalities. Thus, she consistently discerns her art to be an orchestration of systems, although she works in many media. She often turns to personally designed notation systems such as animated/graphic notation. As part of Sound of Stockholm, Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir will perform AREOLAE, the latest manifestation of her personal brand of metaphysics. The sensation of a veil of control slinking over and dissolving, built into the psyche. Snæbjörnsdóttir’s background as performer is diverse. She has toured and recorded with acts such as Sigur Rós and Björk, as well as performing new music. Besides a B.A. in new media composition from the Iceland Academy of the Arts, she holds a M.A. degree in composition from Mills College where she studied Fred Frith, Pauline Oliveros, James Fei, and Zeena Parkins. Her work has been performed widely by groups such as the Oslo Philharmonic (NO), Decibel (AUS), Iceland Symphony Orchestra (IS) and Scenatet (DK).
