Alfred Jimenez was born in Kiev and moved to Sweden when he was 4 years old. He started his musical career by playing the trombone, followed by studies in composition at Malmö Academy of Music with Prof. Luca Francesconi. He has just finished his last years of studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Prof. Detlev Müller-Siemens. Jimenez has been active as a freelance composer in Europe and his music has been performed in Europe, Asia and America.
Jimenez’s work is often based on and motivated by human nature and existence. He therefore also aims to display the performer performing through freedom and restraints. What happens on stage at that isolated moment and solely then is never to be repeated again.
For Sound of Stockholm, Jimenez presents “No Drama – Synchronous Acts of Silencing”, the world premiere of a piece commissioned by The Swedish Arts Council. In this work, the physical preconditions of the five musicians creates a tangible presence, displaying the moments when one feels a closeness to the being. The piece is based on a text specifically written on the subject of silence by My Roman Fagerlind. Born in Sweden in 1989, My Roman Fagerlind is an artist, poet and scriptwriter currently based in Berlin. Her work is cross-disciplinary and uses archival documents and fictitious elements to examine the possibilities of language in relation to personal and collective memory.
